Proud?

Someone once said,’The British Empire will defend itself to the very last Scottish soldier’.  This is just one of a multitude of insults levelled against our cousins.  OK, just a bit of satire, but there is more than a grain of truth in some of the insults [http://www.insults.net/html/world/england.html].

Remembrance Sunday brought this home, when the BBC presented the list of attendees from the invitees at the Cenotaph ceremony.  All the Royals were there to honour our our dead in 2 World Wars and more recent and ongoing conflicts.  Blair was there – no doubt to represent the ‘accused’.  Westminster was well represented as usual.  The 3 ‘amigos’ and an entourage of the usual suspects and ‘hangers on’.

I may be wrong, but I believe Scotland was involved in WW1 and WW2 and I also believe we have sent many good soldiers to our Middle East theatres.  I do love that term, ‘theatre’.  I suppose it sums up the Establishment having a ‘play’ at war.  Actually, even the term war is a bit of a stretch.  I remember the Government in Thatchers’ day, and especially the H block inmates in Ireland were not given ‘war’ status as they were actually terrorists.  It’s only war if your terrorists come from a Middle East country with lots of oil?  Anyway, the point is, Scotland has contributed more soldiers to the UKs’ war efforts, proportionally, than any other country.  For that matter the only area to suffer more intense bombing in WW2 than Dresden, was Clydebank.

Can you imaging how proud we must all have felt watching the ceremony from the Cenotaph when way down the ranking we discover that the Scottish people and our soldiers are represented by:

The Deputy Leader of Plaid Cymru from Wales on behalf of the SNP?

I HOPE ALL THOSE NON-SNP AND UNIONIST SCOTS WILL TAKE NOTE THAT THE PEOPLE OF SCOTLAND CAN NO LONGER HONOUR THEIR DEAD ON THE CENTENARY AT THE CENOTAPH.  THAT IS DONE ON BEHALF OF A NATIONAL POLITICAL PARTY REPRESENTED BY THE DEPUTY OF THE NATIONAL PARTY IN OPPOSITION WITHIN ANOTHER COUNTRY

I AM SO PROUD!
