Scotland’s Referendum – a gift for Mother’s day?

As a special Mother’s Day gift for Mother UK Parliament I thought it may be nice to offer her, and Philip Hammond MP, a little bunch of credibility.  Turns out that is a massive gift, so I hope that it’s appreciated.

Perhaps we could give them a Better Together vote.  But then I watched this fabulous clip and immediately took the NO vote suggestion off the table.  Actually, any NO voter or NO BOTHER TAE voter watching this clip will come to their senses and vote YES.  Watch it, you’ll see I’m right – this is the most compelling clip I have seen, ever.  Massive thanks to Jack Johnson/singer, songwriter.

This morning, Andrew Marr was up to his usual tricks when he completely blanked Rory Bremner’s comment that Scotland offered free university education.  He didn’t even bat an eyelid.

However, however, a little later he redeemed himself when interviewing Philip Hammond. When questioning the Defense Secretary about the ministerial leak that Scotland could negotiate a shared currency in exchange for concessions on Trident, Philip ‘explained’ that in the event of a YES vote Trident would be up for discussion.  However, shared currency was not on the table.  This was not a political argument this was simply an economic fact, said Philip.  He further pointed out that 10 years ago this was recognised with the Euro and hence the UK would not enter into the Euro because currency union only works with fiscal union.

So here’s the thing, Phil.  We don’t have the Euro but we have, almost total, fiscal union.  Sounds like we get the sh*ty end of the stick.  Then there’s Germany with a bigger and more successful economy then the UK, they do have the Euro (poor sods) – except they are delighted about that.  They have no more fiscal union than the UK – they think the Euro is great.  Of course, there’s Greece, they surely hate the Euro – OK so they lied on their application form to the EU – but they just got a hell of a bail out?  In other words, you chose your currency and you make it work for you – that’s what all the Euro members are doing!

So, back to Scotland and the shared currency.  Philip says its purely an economic decision … then he completes the sentence … and therefore Scotland must stay in the union.  He’s absolutely right.  It is an economic reason.  If Scotland does vote YES it will spell economic disaster for the Westminster who can no longer plunder our resources.

Back to Andrew Marr.  He said, ‘But Philip, suppose that Scotland don’t get their seat at the table with the Bank of England.  Suppose they say, OK it’s not in our best interest but we want it anyway?’  Without blushing or hesitating, Philip said, ‘But it’s an economic decision’.  We can only presume that Westminster don’t want to share currency for our own good?  how magnanimous, they really do care about us!

What a crock of sh*t.  You don’t give up on Freedom because you can’t agree on currency.  That’s like cancelling the holiday of a lifetime because you can’t get traveler’s cheques.

What, for goodness sake is wrong with the new Scottish Government in 2016 (possibly not SNP) deciding to USE the pound Sterling without any controls.  See how it goes, and if it is not working out, switch over to our own currency – the wee bobbee.

Oh, and a word to the wise.  Does anybody have a Bank of England cheque card, cheque book or even just a savings account?  Of course you don’t, it’s not a retail bank.  If you have a mortgage you probably pay around 4 – 6% interest.  What’s the Bank of England base rate?  0.5%!  So who get’s the lion’s share?  Your actual bank or building society.  Of course, if your are a young person in Scotland just coming off benefits and getting back into unemployment you may have a payday loan, that’s 1,000,000.5% interest – big impact from the B of E, here.  OK, got it, we’ll have a shared currency with the Co-operative! Sorted.

Incidently, the Bank of England is not actually England’s bank any more that Scotland Yard is Scotland’s police force.  That’s right, it just a name.  The Bank of England is a UK institution and is as much Scotland’s as it is England’s or Wales’s or Northern Ireland’s.  Don’t you just hate it when they do that to you?
